Outpatient Drug Rehab

Outpatient Drug Rehab Program

Outpatient drug rehab programs allow you to focus on recovery and family.

An individual who is addicted to drugs may feel like they are alone in the world, like nothing else matters and as though there is nowhere to turn for help. Drug addiction takes everything away from an addict, their spirit, their health, their emotions and their happiness. With the help of drug rehab, addiction is treatable and can be fully overcome. Outpatient drug rehab programs offer addicts a limited approach to treatment that is minimally invasive and does not require them to live in a residential facility but does provide many of the same treatment options that are offered by inpatient drug rehab.

What is Outpatient Drug Rehab?

Outpatient drug rehab is a minimally invasive type of drug addiction treatment that is provided on an outpatient basis to individuals who need help overcoming addiction. Unlike inpatient drug rehab, outpatient drug rehab programs do not offer around the clock medical monitoring and care because they are not provided at residential treatment centers. Outpatient drug rehab programs do provide monitoring but on a far more limited scale than inpatient drug rehab centers can provide.

Advantages of Outpatient Drug Rehab

The most profound advantage of outpatient drug rehab is probably that the addict is able to continue to live their normal life, attend work or school and live at home with family while still receiving treatment for their drug addiction. Additional advantages of outpatient drug rehab include:

  • lower cost when compared to most inpatient drug rehab programs
  • support structure can be built more profoundly at home for a smooth transition
  • treatment does not interfere with family, work, school or other daily routines

Outpatient drug rehab is a very effective form of treatment for various types of drug addiction as long as the addict is willing and ready to remain sober and has a strong support network at home. This type of drug rehab is not for everyone though.

Who Should Seek Outpatient Drug Rehab?

Although outpatient drug rehab is an effective means of drug addiction treatment, this type of treatment is not suitable for everyone. Individuals who have highly physical addictions or who suffer from complex addictions to drugs should seek inpatient drug rehab prior to transitioning to an outpatient drug rehab center for further treatment. Because outpatient drug rehab is unable to provide around the clock medical monitoring, these programs may not be suitable for those who have a high physical dependence on certain drugs such as opiates, prescription medications and other substances as it’s important that such individual receive monitoring to assure that they are safe during the drug treatment process.

If you are considering outpatient drug rehab, consider the following information before you decide whether outpatient drug rehab is right for you:

  • If your addiction is primarily psychological then outpatient drug rehab is a good option
  • If you have already completed an inpatient drug rehab program, outpatient drug rehab is the next step
  • If you have significant family or work ties that prevent you from seeking inpatient drug rehab, outpatient drug rehab is a good alternative
  • If you are highly committed to your own sobriety, have support at home and have previously failed an attempt at outpatient treatment then this is a suitable first step for you
